A. Hellos:

B. Farewells:

6. I must.away (used only when you have to get to a how and do not have time to engage the person greeting you!)
C. Addressing others:
1. Men:
a. Nobility, people in high station:
my lord, thy worship, noble sir, good gentles
b. Merchants, middle class: ·
sir, good sirmaster, goodman (used as "Mister'')
c. older men: father or gaffer (grandfather)
d. young man or close friend: lad, good orfine lad
e. young boy: lad, young lad, little sir, little master
f. addressing by occupation: master woodsman, master butcher
g. addressing by insult: fellow is rude and ,condescending, while sirrah is for someone you really cannot stand
2. Women:
a. Nobility:
my lady, noble lady, noble madam, good my lady
b. Middle class:
mistress, dear/fair/sweet mistress
c. Peasantry:
middle class plus: wench (dear, sweet, fair, etc)
d. Older women: mother, gammer (grandmother)
e. Young girl: little lady, little mistress,. /ass, sweet lass, little wench, pretty maid
f. Addressing by occupation: sweet milkmaid, mistres beekeeper
